The Langham Hotel Melbourne is currently looking for the following positions:

  • Part-time Kitchen hand
  • Part-time Cook
  • Part-time Commis Chef


You will have the opportunity to work with the Kitchen department which consists of approximately 60 colleagues.

Previous experience in a fast paced working environment and large kitchen brigade will be highly regarded.

We are currently offering fixed term contracts through to 31st January 2019.

Your responsibilities will include:

Kitchen hand & Cook

  • Preparation of cold food, slice cold meats, prepare cold seafood, cold sauces, salads, cheeses, breads etc.
  • Prepare sandwiches and savouries for functions, snacks and dips for banquet areas and all cold dishes on the menu in the various restaurants
  • Preparation and assembly of buffet food items
  • Set up and pack down of buffet
  • Be trained and assist in the preparation of food in the kitchen, together with the senior Chefs.

Commis Chef

  • Assures their preparation for the section is prepared and completed to the standard of the Sous Chef and, in accordance with The Langham Melbourne standards of recipes and specifications.
  • Complete assigned duties across all workstations, for example, grilling, frying, roasting and cold preparation areas as directed
  • Advise the Senior Chef on duty of inventory items needed for operational needs as required
  • Actively promote and participate in teamwork and positive communication with the kitchen and other departments.

The above roles are responsible for ensuring their work area is cleaned and sanitised in accordance with the City and State Health Department codes and The Langham Melbourne's Food Safety Plan.

For these roles, your attributes will be inclusive of the following:

  • Trade qualified (applicable for Commis Chef role)
  • Strong Technical skills
  • Previous experience in a large kitchen brigade, ideally within a luxury hotel or similar environment
  • Proven organisational & time management skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure
